An innovative project to develop assistive devices for rehabilitation technology was launched with the support of the European Development Fund, LIAA and the Institute of Electronics and Computer Engineering.
Electronic safety and personal care device for people with disabilities, GPS/SOS in the global positioning and notification system "EYE"
Equipping and installation of powered wheelchairs and other mobility aids (rollators, walking frames, etc.) with GPS/SOS global positioning and awareness systems to enable persons with reduced mobility to move freely and safely unaccompanied along any urban trajectory in the country. The solution proposed by “ORTONICA” Ltd. consists of an alarm system that signals the location of the person with reduced mobility in real time according to the GPS coordinate system and, at the same time, the alarm from a remote control installed on the wheelchair, roller, walking frame, etc., notifies the person with reduced mobility of the assistance required. This technical solution for surveillance and security allows the emergency signal to be transmitted directly to a mobile communication device (smartphone, tablet) running on Android, IOS and dedicated software. SOS button integrated in the body of the mobility device and specially integrated & mounted on the powered wheelchair and/or other mobility aid, which transmits GPS data to a server about the location of the wheelchair and other mobility aid and an SOS signal via LTE/4G using an insertable SIM card.

Summer conference of the Latvian Association of Occupational Therapists. On 9 June 2018 in Jurmala, at the P. Stradiņš Medical College of the University of Latvia, ORTONICA Ltd. presented ORTONICA products and new technological developments in the field of safety systems for customers using wheelchairs. On 16 May 2018, a seminar was organised in Jurmala at the Social Integration State Agency (SIVA), 71 Dubultu Prospekts, with the participation of rehabilitation specialists.

On 9 May 2018, a seminar was organised at the VCA "Elite" Medical Centre in Riga, attended by GPs( family doctors) and rehabilitation specialists. During the seminar, the representative of "Ortonika" Ltd. presented the models of rehabilitation and medical aids and pointed out the main advantages of the equipment in comparison with the existing analogues on the Latvian market.
